Geocache Description:

This is located in the town of patterson. It is quite easy getting to but please be careful crossing the RR Tracks, there are no crossing guards. The best place to park is all the way down the road near the stream. You'll pass the remnants of an old quarry on your way.

Swamp Thing is a name that we gave to the creature who lives in the Great Swamp. We have looked for Swamp Thing for many years only to have come up with small signs that he is still roaming the area. Our favorite time is dusk, just as the sun is setting, the shadows give us feeling we are being watched. One evening we were all feeling brave and went out at night to have a look. Small phosphorescent spots dotting the trees and the ground had the little Tree Frogs running for home . They were convinced that the glowing spots came off the Swamp Thing. Anyway, this is a great area. Many people launch a canoe from the stream to explore Pine Island and exit at Rt.22. There is an old quarry and beautiful birds, and of course creepy crawlys, after all it is a swamp. Park all the way down at the end of the road, and start your journey there. There are two main trails that are small loops Any trail will work to get you very close then just meander (no bushwhacking necessary) and find the ammo can. Good Luck! If you are in need of Geocaching "stuff" stop by the Duffle Bag a military surplus dealer on route 311 about a half mile east of the railroad tracks on the left. Grumpy old man but great stuff.
