Home
cache of the Momma Bear TB!!
Momma Bear Pass is the local (hiland road residents) name for this
pass at 3000' elevation. It is named for the bears spotted bringing
their babies through the pass in the spring from the ship creek
valley. Bears, moose, and even wolves use this pass, and we've seen
lynx in the area too. This cache is at least 45 minutes or more of
steep (1000 ft.) elevation gain from the south fork trailhead. From
the parking lot, follow the trail to the fork at N 61 13.799 W 149
27.460. From here go UP and into the pass. Follow the trail through
the pass. Get out your GPS! Be CAREFUL reaching for the cache,
there is a resident ground squirrel sharing the nook. On a recent
visit, he (she?)didn't move the whole time we were there. Its
possible its a she and she may have a nest so watch your fingers, I
have no idea if they would actually bite you, but I wouldn't take
the chance. Have a snack and enjoy the view of Anchorage. The
conditions can be rough on any day..even if it is nice at the
trailhead bring a hat, mittens, and water. The wind and cold can
take you by surprise. BE PREPARED!!! There is a disposable camera
in the cache. Please take a picture and leave the camera. (Make
sure you close the viewfinder when finished.) Pics will be posted
eventually. Thanks to the South Fork Moons for maintaining this
cache for us as we have moved to Perth, AU. Hope you enjoy your
visit.
