This cache is dedicated to the men and women who have broken, and continue to break Land Speed Records on the Bonneville Salt Flats. It’s an easy cache to grab for east or westbound I-80 travelers. To the east of the cache is the World Famous Bonneville Salt Flats, home of Land Speed Records established by people like: Malcolm Campbell, John Cobb, Mickey Thompson, Craig Breedlove, Art Arfons, Gary Gabelich, Bob Summers, Al Teague and Don Vesco, just to name a few. To the south lies the company responsible for stealing the precious salt from the Salt Flats. Enough said about them. To the north, is the Emigrant and Donner Party Trails. Better bring a lunch if you’re going to explore that area. If the area is wet, DO NOT VENTURE ONTO THE SALT FLATS! In fact, if you’re not familiar with the Salt, better walk onto it before you try to drive onto it. The Wendover towing service makes a living out of people who get stuck in the Salt. Since the cache is located a brief distance off a dirt road, you should also make sure of its condition before traveling on it in wet conditions. Make sure you check-out the dike near the cache. The water is quite beautiful. Just don’t fall in. It’s so briny that you won’t sink. But, it’ll be a long ride to the shower. Cache you later, Monty and Ivan
