This small lake is worth the hike even if you don't find the cache. The lake is about 10350 feet above sea-level. We saw about 20 salamanders, some over 9 inches long, frogs, dragon-flies emerging from their nymph stage, and other interesting wildlife.
Start at the Ruth Lake trail head. Follow the Ruth Lake trail, then get off the trail and go to Naomi Lake, and then on to Fir Lake. It is well hidden in a small cave in back of a crevice and covered by rocks. As of 8/23/02 this cache is now a green sealed ammo box to resist snow and weather. To see it you must be looking with your back toward the lake at about 10 degrees north.
