Anclote River Multi-Cache Multi-cache

This cache has been archived.

GeoGal: Infosponge, InfoJr and I searched as diligently as possible to retrieve any trace of the travel bugs that were in this cache when it was destroyed, but to no avail. If someone with a metal detector could go over the area, I'm sure something could be found. The entire area has been bull-dozed over. Looks like they are clearing out a new section of the park. We found the cache lid, pieces of the sides, some beads, a baseball card, a few plastic baggies...one with a geocaching sticker on it. There is a trash can nearby so we cleaned up what we could.

It was a great cache while it lasted and I thank everyone who visited it. If I had my camera with me, I would be posting a 'death of a geocache' picture...very sad. But alas, we jogged over to the park from our home and I had none. :(

Geocache Description:

Multi-cache in the Anclote River Nature Park. You do not have to bushwhack to do cache (there are snakes around).

News Update 3/21/04 - Yesterday Infosponge and I were biking along the Pinellas Trail and we stopped to talk with one of the workers paving the trail over to the Anclote River Nature Park. He said the Pinellas Trail going over the Anclote River into the park would be open on Monday, 3/22/04. So this cache should be available from the trail for anyone wanted to do it that way! They've been doing a lot of improvements to this park including many new piers, bathrooms, etc. And of course...now you can bike over the river to the park! :-)

This is a two-stage multi-cache in the Anclote River Nature Park. This park has a nice playground and allows dogs on leashes. The first cache contains the coordinates to the final cache location. There are lots of trails and many picnic tables with great views of the Anclote River. There used to be a railroad bridge across the Anclote River at this location. The bridge no longer spans the entire river, but you can walk out on the bridge and be in the middle of the river with some really nice views. As you are walking after locating the first cache, take a look to your right and you may see the remains of the bridge. If you want to go out there, take the dirt trail on your right and you'll be out on the bridge. Total walking distance is approximately 1 mile.

Warning: As usual in Florida, please be aware of "critters" when reaching in for the caches. Neither cache takes you far off the main trails.
