You are going to get to play in the smallest park in Nashville and visit the oldest still working fire hall. The park is called Bass Park; it was named after the first Fire Captain at the Holly Street Fire Hall Number 14. It was built in 1913 and had the first suburban motorized fire truck in the area. The fire hall is on the National Register of Historic Places. It caused quite a stir in the early days when it first opened and was staffed with six bachelors. One newspaper article suggest it might be because that part of the city had the prettiest girls.
A shift was on duty the day I visited and took me on the grand tour. Oh, did I mention that it also has the last brass pole still in place, and that Captain Bass’s old chair is still there and sometimes it moooooooves all by itself. These are the nicest fireman that this old boy has ever met; go in and visit and I'm sure they will show you around and fill you in on all the history and you can tell how proud they are to be there.
As with any working fire hall DO NOT PARK IN FRONT OF THE BIG DOORS
THE SILVER BULLET SERIES these are places that are unique and interesting and sometimes bizarre, but not quite up to virtual status quo but are very unusual just the same. These are all places I bet you have never been to or seen, and if you have please say so in your log.
