There is a wide concrete bike path in the beginning. Very near the cache is a network of well-used deer paths to follow off the bike path to the cache. The whole walk is a little more than .35 miles. Since this is in a woods, be prepared with long pants and mosquito repellent, etc during the season.
This cache is part of a string of Lewis and Clark caches along the Missouri River on the Nebraska and Iowa sides. It is located on the land of the Western Historic Trails Center with a nice parking lot. You may park by the second entrance when the first entrance is closed and still locate the cache. This is often done by hikers and bikers.
The museum tells of a Lewis and Clark encampment in the area plus information about 4 historic trails used as men were moving west. This cache was placed with permission of the land owner and local help on the cache placement and lid contents.
The location is surrounded by signs of deer such as the smooth round area with a branch from a tree directly over it. It is called a licking branch. Of coure, the usual calling card lies in piles, so beware of where you walk.
You can continue your walk to the river and notice the special Loess Hills soil found mostly just in these hills and China.
