Geocache Description:

This cache is situated in some woods close to the most impressive avenue of trees I have seen.Prepare for muddy conditions if there has been rain.

The cache consists of a small ammo box with a notebook and pen/pencil for log entries and the usual small gifts. If the weather is good take the time to explore this area as it is well worth it. The National Trust Car park is located half way down Wellingtonia Avenue (N51 21.913 W0 50.012) has a map of Finchampstead Ridges with some suggested walks.

For those who are interested here is a bit about the trees:

In 1863 Mr John Walters MP of Bear Wood Estate, constructed this road over Finchampstead Ridges. It was planted in 1869 with Wellingtonia trees. Wellingtonia, the world's largest tree, can grow to over 350ft, weigh 1000 tons and live for 4000 years in its native habitat. In Europe it will grow on average to 160ft high and live for about 1000 years. Through these examples at Wellingtonia Avenue are less than 150 years old, they already dominate the skyline. The bark of these trees is very thick and soft compared with that of our native Scots Pine. The cones can stay on the tree for about 20 years before they drop.
