Geocache Description:

18 June 2023, 11:00 - 12:00

Maker magic events have been created to share knowledge and inspire others to create wonderful new geocaches.

This event will highlight key areas in the publication process, that may hopefully help others. These are mainly things we learned as we went along when we first started caching so hopefully it'll help others get going more quickly. We welcome new and of course experienced geocachers to come along and share their knowledge and stories about geocaching, more the merrier.

The Topics
Location
Where can you/can't you place a geocache? Geocaches radius rules. The different type of geocaches, what do they all mean?

Coordinates
Giving accurate coordinates to finders on your geocaches is very important. How do you do this?

Permissions
Some geocaches require landowner's permission, How will I know if I need this? How do I get it?

Cache Page
How to format (make it look pretty), what needs to be on the page, adding images, links etc.

Submitting for Review
Reviewers they're a friendly bunch, but what do they need to know? What will they challenge?

Being a Cache Owner
It's a responsibility, put your cache out before you publish for example, maintenance is key, changes that can be made after published.

Geocaching on Apps
There are plenty of devices/apps that you can go geocaching with. We use the Geocaching App, Cachly and c:geo. We're not experts but can share some hints/tips for using them

This event will be co-hosted by 1gowild and Louiseannhw.

The given coordinates are for a small carpark. We shall gather on the picnic bench nearby.

This is a Maker Magic event, a celebration of creative cache hides that may inspire you to create a wonderful cache of your own. When you write your Attended log, you will earn the Maker Magic souvenir. You can read more information about the souvenir on the geocaching blog.
