Geocache Description:

02 July 2023, 13:00 - 15:00

Please bring your picnic and a chair/blanket to sit on to this event at lunchtime in the very pleasant Mill Marsh Park in Bovey Tracey!  There is a small safe playpark for geo-children nearby.  Car parking is available with public toilets nearby adjacent to the newly rebuilt Visitors Centre.

Whether you are new or a novice to geocaching or a "has seen it all before" geocacher, everyone is of course welcome to attend.  Hopefully this event will be awarded the 'Magic Maker' status given by Geocaching HQ, and those attending will receive the MMHQ souvenir for their profile on logging their attendance!

We will be discussing the guidelines that have been set out by GeocachingHQ which include:-

a) where can a geocache be placed, and where not?  What other factors need to be considered?

b) obtaining landowner permission - how will I know if required, and how do l get it?

c) what is a good geocache container, and which best suits the location you have chosen,

d) cache page content - what needs to be on the cache page?

e) accurate coordinates - how to obtain accurate coordinates?

f) after publication - what does the cache owner need to do and know? Can and how can a cache page be changed at this stage?

also for discussion:-

g) different icons - what do they all mean?

h) waypoints - how to enter them on the cache page and when are they required?

There will also be an opportunity to discuss local geocaches and how they meet the guidelines set out by HQ.

We can share our experiences with different geocaching apps and different devices.

All in all a busy informative afternoon, and l am sure we will all benefit from our increased understanding of the Geocaching HQ Guidelines.
