What Makes a Good Geocache?
Cafe in the Crypt,
St-Martin-in-the-Fields
Trafalgar Square
London
WC2N 4JJ
Saturday 1st July 2023
11.00am to 1pm
What it is all about: Feel free to come along to the Cafe-in-the-Crypt at St-Martin-in-the-Fields to discuss what works well to make a geocache effective. We will discuss the guidelines that have been set out by Geocaching HQ. These will vary from
- what makes a good location and what doesn't,
- obtaining landowner permission
- what is a good geocache container and which best suits the location you have chosen;
- cache page content and what can or cannot be included before submitting it for publication;
- cache owner responsibilities after publication.
We will also look into different icons, waypoints and changes to a cache after publication. There will be an opportunity to discuss local geocaches and how they meet the guidelines set out by GCHQ.
Food and drinks: We'll be in the cafe, but purchasing items are optional to attend this event.
Public transport: The venue is a short walk from Charing Cross Underground and National Rail Stations. Several bus routes also bypass here.
Mobility Access: There is a lift and stairs to the cafe.
This is a Maker Magic event, a celebration of creative cache hides that may inspire you to create a wonderful cache of your own. When you write you Attended log, you will earn the Maker Magic souvenir. You can read more information about the souvenir on the geocaching blog.
