Geocaching International Film Festival 2023
Alle Jahre wieder lädt Groundspeak die Cacher ein kleine Kurzfilme rund um unser Hobby zu produzieren. Die Auswahl der Besten wird in einer circa 60-minütigen Filmrolle im Herbst in der GIFF Woche einem weltweiten Publikum präsentiert an Orten überall auf der Welt. Dabei erhält der Cacher neben einem unterhaltsamen Abend auch noch ein Souvenir zur Erinnerung. (Hier zusätzlich noch ein eigenes für den Mega) Als besonderes Highlight bieten wir euch in Köln erneut das ehemals erste Mega Event in Hinsicht auf Teilnehmer und Leinwandgröße in dem traditionellem "Janz jroß Kinema" Mega an.
Endlich ist die verrückte Pandemie Zeit vorbei und trotz vieler Härten sind wir mehrheitlich ganz gut durchgekommen. Leider gilt dies nicht für das Autokino in Köln, welches uns den Rahmen für das weltgrößte GIFF Event bereits zum dritten Mal zur Verfügung stellt. Die Zukunft dieser Location ist aufgrund der Kommunalpolitik mit einigen Fragezeichen versehen. Dennoch besteht eine Bestandsgarantie für das Jahr 2023.
Update: Durch Gerichtsentscheid wurde dem Kino seine wirtschaftliche Grundlage mit der Durchführung von Märkten entzogen und man mußte sich leider von vielen langjährigen Mitarbeitern trennen. Damit das Kino überhaupt noch weiterexistieren kann, hat man große Teile des Geländes an einen Parkplatzanbieter untervermietet. Damit konnte vorerst der Weiterbetrieb gesichert werden, allerdings haben wir einen großen Teil der Fläche und damit Kapazität verloren für Autos im Kino. Von ehemals 1200 auf weniger als 540 Plätze.
Bitte achtet bei der Zufahrt darauf, nicht versehentlich auf das Gelände des Parkplatzanbieters zu fahren und auch wird das Parken grundsätzlich deutlich enger erfolgen als in der Vergangenheit. Dafür werden wir die Plätze zuweisen und es geht nach dem Prinzip, wer zuerst kommt erhält die besseren Plätze. Ein mehrfaches Auf- und wieder Abfahren vom Gelände sichert nicht den anfänglichen Platz. Wer das Gelände verläßt, muss später parken in den übrig gebliebenen Zonen. Bitte folgt den Anweisungen der Einweiser auf dem Gelände. Zufahrt ab 11:11 Uhr am Samstag.
Wohnmobile können nur über die Ausfahrt auf das Gelände gelangen und melden sich dabei bitte in der Snackbar an. Sie werden zu extra ausgewiesenen WoMo Plätzen geleitet. Die Zufahrt ist für WoMo bereits am Freitag zwischen 18:00 und 20:00 Uhr und am Samstag morgen bereits ab 9:30 Uhr möglich. Stellplatzgebühr ist pro Tag und Person 7,50 Euro und beinhaltet auch ein Kinoticket für die regulär gezeigten Filme am Freitag und Samstag. Es fallen keine weiteren Gebühren an. Es gibt keine Strom- oder Wasserversorgung vor Ort. WC-Nutzung nur während der regulären Öffnungszeiten des Kino. Keine Wohnwagengespanne oder Zelte erlaubt.
Es sind keine Reservierungen weder für PKW noch WoMo möglich.
Wer Abdeckungen für die Scheinwerfer benötigt (Tagfahrlicht vorne und hinten) kann diese ab 18:00 Uhr an der Rückseite der Snackbar gegen Pfand erhalten.
Es erwartet euch gegen 19:00Uhr die GIFF Rolle 2023 mit der bekannten kontrastreichen Lasertechnik und ihrem tollen Bild auf der riesigen Leinwand. Ton, wie immer nur über das Autoradio FM 90,5.
Wir freuen uns euch auch in 2023 zum GIFF Mega Event nach Köln einzuladen. Am Samstag, dem 11.11.2023 öffnen wir bereits gegen 11:11 Uhr die Tore des Geländes auch für Fahrrad und Fussgänger und ihr könnt die Basis für eure Cacher Aktivitäten in Köln und Umgebung nutzen. Der Eintritt bleibt kostenlos, dank des Autokino Betreibers. Für einen kleineren Kreis wird der GIFF Film auch auf einem Monitor in der Snackbar gezeigt.
Auf dem Gelände werden wir ein paar Überraschungen bereit halten und das Autokino stellt uns die bekannt günstigen Grill- und Snackvarianten zur Verfügung. Eine Einfahrt auf das Gelände muss bis spätestens 18:45 Uhr erfolgen. Die Zufahrt später parallel zur Kinovorführung ist ausgeschlossen.
Eine eigenes nur an diesem Tag spielbares LabAdventure wird auf dem Gelände liegen. Zusätzlich werden teils in der Nähe 50 Caches und 40 weitere Lab-Adventure in Köln auf Dauer veröffentlicht.
Am Freitag Abend findet unser Auftaktevent in der Nähe des Autokinos in einem Buffetrestaurant statt.

Zur Freude unserer Signal Freunde wird unser Maskottchen mehrfach am Nachmittag auf dem Gelände für ein Meet und Greet und Fotos zur Verfügung stehen.
Bei der Zufahrt auf das Gelände erhaltet ihr für jedes Team euren eigenen "Stern" für das Logbuch, welches wir später zum größten Logbuch der Welt auf der Leinwand präsentieren werden.
Nach den GIFF Filmen ist das Gelände bis 21:00 Uhr zu verlassen, da gegen 23 Uhr noch ein regulärer Film im Autokino gezeigt wird.
Wer möchte kann ein Kino Filmticket für 7,50 Euro pro Person beim Autokino erstehen und bleibt einfach auf dem Gelände. Der Filmtitel wird erst wenige Tage vor dem Event bekannt gegeben.
Hunde sind auf dem Gelände erlaubt.

Every year Groundspeak invites cachers to produce short films about our hobby. The selection of the best will be presented in a 60-minute film reel in the fall during GIFF week to a worldwide audience at locations all over the world. In addition to an entertaining evening, the cacher will also receive a souvenir as a memento. As a special highlight we offer you in Cologne again the former first Mega Event in terms of participants and screen size in the traditional "Janz jroß Kinema" Mega.
Finally the crazy pandemic time is over and despite a lot of hardships we came through quite well for the majority. Unfortunately, this is not the case for the drive-in cinema in Cologne, which is providing us with the setting for the world's largest GIFF event for the third time. The future of this location has some question marks due to local politics. Nevertheless, the cinema is guaranteed to remain open until 2023.
Update: By court decision, the cinema was deprived of its economic basis with the implementation of markets and one unfortunately had to part with many long-time employees. In order for the cinema to continue to exist at all, large parts of the site were sublet to a parking provider. This has ensured the continued operation for the time being, but we have lost a large part of the area and thus capacity for cars in the cinema. From formerly 1200 to less than 540 seats.
Please be careful not to accidentally drive onto the parking provider's site and also parking will basically be much tighter than in the past. For this we will allocate the spaces and it will be on a first come, first served basis. Driving up and down the site several times will not secure the initial space. Those leaving the area will have to park later in the remaining zones. Please follow the directions of the marshals on the grounds. Access from 11:11 a.m. on Saturday.
RVs can only enter the site via the exit and please check in at the snack bar when doing so. You will be directed to specially designated WoMo places. Access is already possible for WoMo on Friday between 18:00 and 20:00 and on Saturday morning already from 9:30 a.m.. Pitch fee is per day and person 7.50 euros and also includes a cinema ticket for the regularly shown films on Friday and Saturday. There are no other fees. There is no electricity or water supply on site. WC use only during regular cinema opening hours. No caravans or tents allowed.
No reservations are possible for either cars or campers.
Who needs covers for the headlights (daytime running lights front and rear) can get them from 18:00 clock at the back of the snack bar against deposit.
It awaits you around 19:00 the GIFF role 2023 with the well-known high-contrast laser technology and its great image on the huge screen. Sound, as always only over the car radio FM 90.5.
We are pleased to invite you also in 2023 to the GIFF Mega Event in Cologne. On Saturday, 11.11.2023 we open the gates of the site already around 11:11 a.m. also for bicycles and pedestrians and you can use the base for your cacher activities in Cologne and the surrounding area. The entrance remains free, thanks to the drive-in operator. For a smaller circle the GIFF movie will also be shown on a monitor in the snack bar.
We will have a few surprises on the premises and the drive-in cinema will provide us with the well-known cheap barbecue and snack options. An entrance to the site must be made no later than 18:45. Access later in parallel with the cinema screening is excluded.
An own only on this day playable LabAdventure will be on the site. In addition, partly in the vicinity 50 caches and 40 other Lab-Adventure in Cologne will be published permanently.
On Friday evening our kick-off event will take place near the drive-in in a buffet restaurant.
On Sunday morning a traditional CITO will be held with the support of AWB Cologne at the banks of the Rhine.
And finally, at noon, we will go up high for a panoramic view over Cologne.
Our store Cache-Corner will again offer trackables and other of our toys in a store on the outside of the snack bar.
For the event we will offer our own Event-Coin to the Mega in a limited edition of 111 pieces at a price of 16,50 Euro. A nice souvenir and a small donation for the costs of the Orga. Thanks to my designer Meli.
Between 4:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. there will be a reviewer QA session in the snack bar with several regional reviewers and you can also see the hardworking volunteers in the flesh. http://www.gc-reviewer.de/
To the delight of our Signal friends, our mascot will be on the grounds several times throughout the afternoon for a meet and greet and photos.
Upon entering the grounds, each team will receive their own "star" for the logbook, which we will later present on the big screen for the largest logbook in the world.
After the GIFF movies you have to leave the area, because there will be a regular movie shown in the drive-in theater around 11 pm.
If you want you can buy a movie ticket for 7,50 Euro per person at the drive-in and just stay on the premises. The movie title will be announced a few days before the event.
Dogs are allowed on the premises.
We are happy to continue the tradition of the Big Screen Mega GIFF Party with you and that even at the start of the carnival session 2023/24.
