Radar Meteorológico da Região Autónoma da Madeira/ Meteorological Radar of the Autonomous Region of Madeira
Atendendo à necessidade de melhorar a vigilância do estado do tempo e a previsão a curto prazo (Nowcasting), com vista a aumentar a capacidade e fiabilidade da resposta do Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera (IPMA) às necessidades do Serviço Regional de Proteção Civil e da população em geral, reconheceu-se que tal só seria tecnicamente possível dotando a região com equipamentos de observação remota, nomeadamente com um radar meteorológico. Só assim, seria possível a vigilância meteorológica em toda a Região Autónoma da Madeira (RAM), assim como, a melhoria e otimização dos atuais modelos meteorológicos, com igual desempenho para todos os concelhos e cobertura numa área circular, com limite próximo das ilhas Selvagens, e centrada no Porto Santo.
Given the need to improve weather surveillance and short-term forecasting (Nowcasting), with a view to increasing the capacity and reliability of the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) response to the needs of the Regional Civil Protection Service and the population in general, it was recognized that this would only be technically possible by providing the region with remote observation equipment, namely a meteorological radar. Only then would meteorological surveillance be possible throughout the Autonomous Region of Madeira (RAM), as well as the improvement and optimization of current meteorological models, with equal performance for all municipalities and coverage in a circular area, with a limit close to the Selvagens Islands, and centered in Porto Santo.
Execução da operação/ Operation execution:
A edificação da torre e a instalação dos equipamentos decorreram maioritariamente durante o ano de 2017, tendo o radar entrado em funcionamento, em regime experimental, em 16 de novembro de 2017. Foi oficialmente inaugurado no dia 14 de janeiro de 2019.

The construction of the tower and the installation of equipment took place mostly during 2017, with the radar going into operation, on an experimental basis, on November 16, 2017. It was officially inaugurated on January 14, 2019.

A cache encontra-se um pouco afastada do radar meteorológico, pois não havia lugares oportunos para escondê-la. A cache encontra-se coberta por pedras, deste modo, peço que as removam cuidadosamente, para não destruir a estrutura. Basta remover uma pedra. Leve consigo material de escrita. Evite fazer a cache durante tempo adverso. O vento intenso também poderá ser incomodativo neste local. De resto, respeite a natureza e manuseie com cuidado a cache.
This cache aims to make known the meteorological radar of the Autonomous Region of Madeira. The cache is a little far from the meteorological radar, as there were no suitable places to hide it. The cache is covered by stones, so please remove them carefully so as not to destroy the structure. Just remove a stone. Take writing materials with you. Avoid caching during adverse weather.
