Geocache Description:

"The Bronx? No thonx."

Straightforward stroll over relatively flat terrain. DO NOT park along the Hutchinson River Parkway or the New England Thruway and attempt to bushwack this cache.¹ Recommended parking is at the Split Rock Golf Course at Pelham Bay Park at N 40 52.386 W073 48.602. There is a $2 parking fee.² A bridle path that runs along the western edge of the parking lot will take you to the cache. Do not go on the golf course.³ Hiking boots are recommended as the bridle path is muddy in places. Also, since you will be hiking along a bridle path, keep two rules in mind: 1) yield to the horses and 2) watch your step. A short bushwack is required to reach the cache but you may still be seen from the bridle path so use stealth and be discreet.

First finder is entitled to an instrument that will allow the bearer to give all second comers a Bronx Cheer. Aside from the usual trinkets, there are cache magnets and, as a special bonus, tickets to the first two games of last year's World Series.

NOTE: I placed this cache at the same time I placed cache ninja's moving cache named "NyC m|cr0 moT|on cAche ver 3.o" (since archived) nearby at N 40° 53.186 W 073° 48.903, at the base of the fabled "Split Rock." Although the plaque that used to be on the boulder is long gone, it is said that if you look west through the split in the rock you will see the location along the Hutchinson River where Ann Hutchinson (www.annehutchinson.com) once lived (and died at the hands of hostile Indians). If you want to visit the Split Rock, be forewarned that you will need to cross the one lane off-ramp from the Hutchinson River Parkway. I have also uploaded to the cache page an article about Anne Hutchinson from the New York Times. Also, you will note that I-95 bends around the Split Rock. In 1958, there were plans to blow up the rock to make way for the New England Thruway but, thanks to Bronx historian Theodore Kazimiroff (who a section of Southern Blvd. in the Bronx was renamed for), the road was diverted a few feet north, sparing the rock. These and more fun facts can be found at http://www.forgotten-ny.com. Just wanted to let you know there was actually a reason for placing a cache in this remote spot in the Bronx.
