Geocache Description:

FTF Awards

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the coordinates above. In fact, they are quite intentionally and precisely placed in the middle of the interstate. However, if you want to find this cache, I don't recommend going there; I suggest solving the puzzle in the cache description below instead.

That being said, the cache is within 3.14159265359... km of the posted coordinates.

Happy Pi Day!

March 14th (3/14) is celebrated as Pi Day (3.14) by math enthusiasts around the world. Pi is the mathematical constant that is the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter. Mathematically, it’s transcendental and irrational. Its decimal places go on infinitely.

To celebrate the holiday, I have been serving up a Pi Day puzzle every year since 2014; here are the caches in the series thus far:

2014 - GC4ZJ6K
2015 - GC5N33X
2016 - GC6CCXC
2017 - GC71EYQ
2018 - GC7KADF
2019 - GC82DRP
2020 - GC8KCRK
2021 - GC97CB8
2022 - GC9PQ0A
2023 - GCA4BKB
2024 - GCAJMK3

For 2023, I have replicated a Pi puzzle from one of my favorite geocaching scholars, CaptainMath. As a side-note, his personal website has a great visual explanation of Pi that can be found at http://captainmath.net/PiExplained.html. Thanks, also, to my friend Jennifer of teamajk and publisher of The Geocaching Puzzle of the Day for testing my math.

So, here is the conundrum for this year:

Yom and Fogie unicycle acrobaticsOl'Fogie and yomegranate take their unicycle for an acrobatic ride, as captured in the adjacent image, to the point given by the posted coordinates, dodging speedy traffic on the interstate before parking at said coordinates causing a heckuva hazard to motorists and themselves. They look directly south, turn to their left precisely 57 degrees, and ride their unicycle in a straight line. Their 26-inch wheel turns exactly 648 rotations and they stop, where they find - you guessed it - a geocache! They excitedly open it, sign the log, and replace it as found - exactly as any good geocachers should.

Note: For the sake of this problem, assume the tire is inflated so the diameter is exactly 26 inches and that the path Ol'Fogie and yomegranate ride to the geocache location is perfectly straight and completely flat.

Can you find the geocache that Ol'Fogie and yomegranate found?

Enjoy, happy hunting, and good luck spilling your ink. Cache ya later!
Ol'Fogie

Logging Etiquette: Geocache hiders sometimes go through a great deal of planning and effort to create and place their caches. As a result, they'd like to hear your feedback on whether you liked or disliked any aspect of the hide, the journey, or the location, or if you feel that some cache maintenance is required. Single word, acronym, or "copy and paste" logs may be easier when you have a lot of caches to log, but it doesn't tell the hider or other finders anything about your adventure (or lack thereof) in finding the cache. Please keep this in mind when entering your log.
Travel Bug Etiquette: Cachers pay good money for Travel Bugs and Geocoins. If you take a TB or GC from a cache, PLEASE ensure it is correctly logged in and out. If you take one that still shows it is somewhere else, please be patient before "grabbing" the item; it does not get its mileage by being grabbed before the last person to drop it has had time to log their placement. This is particularly important on busy and new caches. If you have an issue with a bug or coin, please e-mail or message the owner through their profile and advise them of the issue; they will be pleased to hear from you.
