Willow clearance from the flood storage pond
at Horsbere Brook Reserve
Â
Parking: Suggested parking is in the car park at the provided coords, there is a footbridge to take you over to Horsbere Brook Reserve.Â
Or if there is space you can park by the gates leading in to the Reserve (alternative parking).
Where: Meet by the main gate at 09:00Â (alternative parking coords) or find us in the pond, near the published coords.
Please note there are a couple of ways of getting into the pond:
1. You can use the waypointed kissing gate and then use the supplied ladder to climb over the barbed wire fence.
2. You can go to the waypointed field gate and climb over that.
What: We clear willow annually to prevent it taking over the flood storage pond. Join us as we continue the work done in previous CITOs clearing the willow.
N.B. If the water in the pond is too deep to work in at this time there will be a change of activity and we shall work on the hedge along the farm track, adjacent to the pond.Â
How: The Countryside Ranger will be there providing guidance. We ask you to bring your own gloves and if you have them tools, so if you have loppers and a saw please do bring them along. Don't worry if you don't have them as the Ranger will have a supply too.
You most definitely will need your wellies and if you have waders even better.
Health and Safety: The session and will be covered by Council insurance as long as you are working under the Countryside Ranger's instruction.
Please make sure you bring along your own refreshments as it can be thirsty work! Cake will be provided at breaktime.Â
