Geocache Description:

18 February 2023, 09:00 - 21:00

The event starts on Saturday, at 9:00 am, and will run until 9:00 pm. The owner of "Big Island" on Annabassacook Lake in the Winthrop/Monmouth area has given us permission to use the island. This  will be our fourth year there. If the ice is unsafe, we can use Snownut56's cabin and area as a back-up. Please indicate your intention to attend. Be prepared to park and walk/snowshoe (anywhere from 1/10th to 1/2 mile) if we can't get into Snownut56's camp. Once at the cabin it is 1/2 mile across the lake and to the island.

Make it a day event or an overnight event!

Some people even come a day early and stay at Snownut56's cabin, which is very rustic. It's a very basic place, but has electricity and a fireplace and it will be heated. There's a latrine out back and a sliding hill. You can also camp on the island on Friday night and walk over to the cabin for a game of cards, laughter, or just to relax. We may even get the outdoor screen up and show a movie.

The camping is on Big Island on Annabassacook Lake. The campsite can be accessed by snowshoe, skis, or snowmobile, and just maybe, skates! There is plenty of room for tents, a private latrine, gazebo and a fire pit.  We hope to have hot chocolate going all day. Kids of all ages can slide on the banks and you can try your hand at ice fishing. There are caches on the island and lake.

Let's aim for a 4:00 dinner on the island. Bring your favorite campfire dinner or cook on your campstove. Afterward, everyone gets dessert and a campfire.

The campfire will be lit most of the time, but especially in the evening. There are some chairs on the island (if you can, bring your own) and plenty of firewood.

Check back here before the event for important announcements. If the weather forcast does require us to cancel, postpone, or relocate the event, we'll post it here. .

If you need help getting your gear to location, let us know. There are usually lots of people to help. Also, there are plenty of good sites on-line on how to prepare for a winter outing or overnight, but if you have any questions please feel free to ask Kaching Karen or tat.
