This cache is located on the South Downs Way, very close to the
natural amphitheatre at Cheesefoot Hill, on the outskirts of
Winchester.
In April 1944 six weeks before D-Day the US Army held a boxing
tournament, thousands of British and American troops lined the
steep ****s of the punch bowl to watch the top bill Joe Louis the
heavyweight boxing champion of the world. It is also believed that
Eisenhower briefed the US troops on the D-day landing in this
stunning valley.
May now sees the annual music festival (Homelands) making use of
the perfect natural bowl. This cache will be disabled around this
event.
