In 1950 werd de eerste conventie van de World Meteorological Organization gehouden, en naar aanleiding daarvan werd ook op 23 maart elk jaar de Internationale Dag van de Meteorologie gehouden. Meteorologie is de leer van de atmosfeer, die gebruikt wordt om het weer te bepalen.
