Geocache Description:

14 August 2022, 08:45 - 09:15

David Bone Nightingale Jack was an English footballer who scored 267 goals in the Football League playing for Plymouth Argyle, Bolton Wanderers and Arsenal. He was the first footballer to be transferred for a fee in excess of £10,000. He was the first player to score at Wembley Stadium in the 1923 FA Cup Final when Bolton Wanders beat West Ham United by 2-0. He was capped nine times for England.

He was born in 1898 and moved to Southend in 1906 when his father, Bob Jack, became the first manager of Southend United. They lived at 254 Hamlet Court Road, Westcliff-on-Sea until 1910 when Bob became the manager of Plymouth Argyle. After retiring as a player in 1934, David returned to manage Southend United until 1940.

This will be the 22nd Plaque Event.  The idea is to celebrate plaques that may be missed by the casual observer.

A municipal plaque is a permanent sign installed in a public place in the United Kingdom and elsewhere to commemorate a link between that location and a famous person or event, serving as a historical marker.

This plaque commemorates, David Jack. Further information can be found at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David Jack.
