Geocache Description:

10 August 2022, 12:30 - 15:30

Yo ho ho it's a raking we will go at Horsbere

Parking: Suggested parking is in the car park at the provided coords, there is a footbridge to take you over to Horsbere. Or if there is space you can park by the gates leading in to the brook (alternative parking).

Where: Meet by the main gate at 1230 (alternative parking coords) or find us in Cliff's Woods (published coords), look for the flag.

What: We will be raking the cut grass from an area of Cliff's Wood which will be sown with wildflower seeds in the Autumn.

The removal of the cut grass removes nutrients from the area. This will encourage competition between plant species allowing a greater diversity of species to colonise. When the area is nutrient rich a few species dominate leading to a lower biodiversity.

The area will be sown with cornfield annuals harvested from The Mound and plug plants grown by volunteers (speak to the ranger if you want to be invovled in growing these plug plants).

How: The Countryside Ranger will be there providing guidance and tools if necessary. Drop by if you have any time to spare and don't worry about not knowing what to do - none of us do, but the ranger will set us straight!

Health and Safety: The session and will be covered by council insurance as long as you are working under the Countryside Ranger's instruction.

You may wish to bring gloves, and a rake if you have one would be brilliant, but the ranger will have several too!

Please make sure you bring along your own refreshments as it can be thirsty work!
