Geocache Description:

06 August 2022, 06:45 - 07:45

Cache In Trash Out (CITO) is an environmental initiative supported by the geocaching community. Since 2002, CITO has helped preserve the natural beauty of cache-friendly spaces. In that time, more than 363,000 people have volunteered at 18,000 CITO events.

Opportunity to clean-up South Pine River!

Paddle by kayak and collect rubbish around our waterways. The plan will be to paddle along South Pine River up to 500 m away, staying along the shore to check rubbish caught up in trees and bushes.

Where: South Pine River - Meet Barungwarra boat ramp (as per the Waypoint), Bald Hills Qld 4036
When: 06:45 - 07:45 hr, Saturday 6/08/2022. Planned launch time at 06:30 hr.
[Note: The CO will be present at the event location for the scheduled event duration.]

There will be an event logbook available to sign from the starting time (although noting that the Geocaching Guidelines do not require attendees to sign a logbook).

The planned area of the CITO clean-up, and suggested paddling route is as follows:

Garbage/trash bags will be supplied (thanks to Clean Up Australia).

Suggested items to bring:

  • Boat/kayak, paddle;
  • Life vest / PFD;
  • Hat and/or sunglasses;
  • Sunscreen;
  • First aid kit;
  • Insect repellent (there may be mosquitoes about - give preference to cream or roll-on that are more environmentally friendly than the spray);
  • Gloves (for rubbish collection);
  • Trash pick-up stick (optional / may be beneficial to reach rubbish from your watercraft that may be stuck in reeds or out of reach areas);
  • Water, 2-3 litres (or more if it's a hot day); and
  • Snacks, fruit, energy bars, etc.

Council bins are provided at the boat ramp, so the plan is to do a clean-up around the river, and leave the rubbish in or next to the bins for later collection. Moreton Bay Council has been notified of the proposed clean-up.

COVID-19 mitigation:

  • Hand sanitiser will be available.

Kayaking is a great activity to safely socially distance - keep one paddle length from one another!

Note: This event may be postponed or cancelled at short notice due to COVID-19 concerns, or impending weather. An announcement will be made by 12:00 hr on Friday 5/08/2022 should the event be moved.
