ANOTHER UPDATE: Fresh Dough Bakery will have a popup food stand while we're there. I don't know what's on the menu, but last time it was wood-fired pizza. The drawing will be held at 6:45pm (must be present to win) - we'll have a SideTracked geocoin, a Storyteller's mug, and a pint of beer to give away.
UPDATE: Good news! The SideTracked team has created a special profile badge for this anniversary event. It's not an official geocaching.com souvenir, it's an awards badge that you can place onto your public geocaching.com profile. Details on how to obtain and display the badge will be sent to attendees after the event.
Raise a glass to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the SideTracked series at Storyteller's Brewery and Meet House in Corona.
The SideTracked series was designed as a distraction for the weary traveler. They are cache-and-dashes for public transport users, which can be found at or near train stations, former train stations, and miniature railroads.
SideTracked started with GC15082 (Evesham station), UK, on Aug 10, 2007, placed by schnarff & bikermel76. It has expanded to over 4,500 caches in more than 30 countries around the world, with more being added all the time.
Within the US, there are 33 active caches: 19 in Oregon, 4 in New York, 2 each in California, Minnesota, and Texas, and 1 each in New Hampshire, District of Columbia, Idaho, and South Carolina. The two active caches in California happen to be in our local area, at the Corona-West and Corona-North Main Metrolink stations. Our event location is midway between the two.
This year, the SideTracked team is holding a special week-long anniversary celebration, kicking off on Sunday, Aug 7, and running through Saturday, August 13. Events are being held at locations across the UK and around the world.
The Corona event is one of only two anniversary events in the United States (the other one is in South Carolina). It will feature a free drawing for a SideTracked geocoin as well as a few other items. The coin has arrived from the UK and it looks great!
We expect to meet at the outside tables. Refreshments available for sale from the brewery include craft beer, hard seltzer, and hard tea. If you prefer something non-alcoholic, they often have canned sodas for sale, or you're welcome to bring a beverage with you. A variety of chips will be provided free of charge. This is a relaxed atmosphere and children and pets are welcome. There are several caches nearby, and one or more new ones will be published during the event.
