KT118 – The Edge of Marthall

Tuesday 16 August 2022
18:00 til close

The Egerton Arms Chophouse
Knutsford Road, Chelford SK11 9BB

This is the 118th KT event and this month it’s at the The Egerton Arms near Marthall. The evening will follow the usual KT format of food, drink and chat and then a circular walk at 20:00 to find 18 new caches which will have been published for the event.

KT events started in 2011 and have been held somewhere in the North West on a regular basis ever since. There are many regular attendees but a warm welcome is extended to all and cachers old and new are welcome. If you intend to come along, please log a Will Attend and if possible, mention in your log the number of attendees and whether or not you expect to be eating. This way I can keep the venue updated on numbers so we will have enough tables or outside space reserved, thank you!

When choosing a location for this month’s event, I initially chose Marthall as being a area that looked to have space for a few new caches and surely there would be a pub in the village?! More research revealed there wasn't even a hall, the 'hall' in the name referring to one in nearby Ollerton. Following the trail of breadcrumbs, Ollerton Hall was built in 1728 for R. K. M. Gildowny, Esq. having as a patron John Egerton, of Tatton Hall fame. Lots of halls in Cheshire… and handily lots of pubs bearing his family name! So the search came full circle to the Egerton Arms, a tenuous link but just down the road from Marthall.

There’s no need to buy any food or drink in order to attend this event. You can just come and say hello and sign the KT logbook to qualify, though there is always the danger of getting drawn into a conversation about Tupperware and staying a good while longer!
