Since its launch back in 2017, the (kinda) annual Stowe Open Day - free entry to the National Trust grounds - has been a regular feature of the caching calendar thanks to this series of events, previously held at a couple of temples.
For this latest incarnation I'm taking us to a new venue; the far-flung 'Fane of Pastoral Poetry' in the park's northernmost corner to celebrate my May trip to Svalbard (N78°) where I set the world's most northerly Letterbox/Hybrid. It's a little further from toilets than usual but is surrounded by bushes..! It's also a quieter corner of Stowe on what's expected to be a busy day.
Please join me (for free!) on Sunday September 18th, noon 'til 1pm at The Fane of Pastoral Poetry, Grecian Valley, Stowe. It's at the given co-ords ;)
Geocachers will gather to exchange travel items and tall caching tales. New to caching or cache events? You'll be made especially welcome. Dogs are welcome too but please keep them on a lead, and please note there's very limited seating here (none is very limited) so if you need a seat please bring your own.
Helpful info: See the additional waypoint for parking. You can get a free ride from there to the entrance and back, but then you've a walk through the grounds to GZ. There are also electric golf buggies available for the less able for a donation. The event location was chosen for variety and it's sheltered. The nearest loo is behind the big temple visible to the southwest (The Temple of Concord and Victory), with more at the house. Plus more by the cafe close to parking.
Fun Fact: The Gothic Temple is usually closed as it's a holiday home, let by The Landmark Trust on behalf of the National Trust. However, today it's open and well worth a look around. The House and Church are also open with free entry on event day.
