For the second year, the North Dakota Park & Recreation Department (NDPRD) has issued a statewide “12 Months – 12 Hikes” challenge. To participate, just pick and hike one of the 21 qualifying trails. The trails are located in 13 participating state parks and you have the entire month to complete a hike. You can complete your hikes all in one park or explore any of 13 locations across the state. New this year: If you miss a hike/month, you can complete 1 of the 3 bonus hikes.
The North Dakota Geocaching Association (NDGCA) is again working with the ND state parks and inviting everyone to hike the state park trails. We will be hosting events in a different state park each month.
If you are a geocacher or not, you are welcome to hike with us and just maybe you will be a geocacher afterwards. We will gather at the parking area and then hike the Sivert Thompson Loop. The trail is a 1.6-mile trail loop meander through ash/oak woodlands which provide an opportunity to bird watch, photograph wildlife, and view 130 different plant species that are native to Grahams Island. The trail also provides a view of Devils Lake along the south shore of Grahams Island.
Remember there is a $7 daily fee to enter state parks or an annual pass is required that can be purchased for $35.
