Geocache Description:

05 March 2022, 10:30 - 11:30

We hope you can join us in Langdon Park, and volunteer to help clean up the park.  The park is home to the Langdon Park Community Center (complete with boxing gym, gymnasium, and indoor basketball court), numerous outdoor facilities (including children's playground, pool, skate park, and tennis & basketball courts), and the famous Chuck Brown Memorial Park.  Chuck Brown is a DC legend and the memorial celebrates his life as the Godfather of Go-Go.  The memorial is home to the annual Chuck Brown Day highlighted by music from numerous Go-Go bands.

This CITO is being organized with the cooperation of DC's Department of Parks & Recreation (Small Parks Specialist Xavier Brown) and the nonprofit organization Casey Trees.  Casey Trees' mission is to restore, enhance, and protect DC's tree canopy.  After and separate from the CITO, Casey Trees will hold a community event in Langdon Park to share information about the importance of urban tree canopies; describe their tree planting efforts; and host some tree-based games for the children.

So come out, and remember to:

  • Dress in layers appropriate for the weather
  • Wear boots or equivalent sturdy footwear
  • Bring your work gloves and grabbers

In case the March weather might give you pause, DC DPR is offering a couple of incentives to assure your attendance:

  1. At the end of the CITO event, we will hold a free drawing for event attendees for one "Eight Wards of Washington, DC Geotrail" trackable coin (pictured below). You must be present to win.  DC DPR employees, USMA77, and their families are not eligible to participate in the drawing.
  2. The first TEN geocacher volunteers to sign the log will receive a small round DC DPR nontrackable collectable (also pictured below).
  3. REMINDER - Groundspeak is offering a CITO Souvenir to all geocachers who attend a CITO event between 3/1/22 - 5/31/22, so everyone is a guaranteed winner.

We'll have a table set up in front of the Chuck Brown Memorial (posted coordinates) across the street from the Community Center at 2901 20th St NE, Washington, DC.

Parking is available along 20th St NE and Franklin St NE.

COVID-19 remains a major health concern.  Even though this is an outdoor event, PLEASE be considerate of others (especially if you are not fully vaccinated), maintain a minimum distance from others of 6 feet, and bring a mask.  Together, let's keep everyone safe!
