Geocache Description:

04 February 2022, 17:15 - 17:45

In Yuma’s Old Town, join the party
with geocachers from nearby and far away
for a mini Mardi Gras parade and can-can frolic!
Bring a can of food with which to parade, if you like.
If not, come anyway, and have fun!

The coordinates will take you to a parking lot near the Main and 3rd Street traffic roundabout and fountain, where we will meet at 5:15 p.m. If you have a geocaching shirt of any kind, please wear it. Wear your Mardi Gras necklaces, masks, and other costume items if you have them. It’s fine to wear face masks (perhaps decorated ones) for protection, if you want to. Also, if you wish, bring a can of food to wave in the parade. There will be lots of extra bead necklaces and even extra cans of food, so if you don’t have time to get to the store, it will be fine.

In the parking lot, everyone will be organized into four fairly equal lines. Wear caching shirt, beads, etc., and carry a can of food in your right hand. Get in line behind one of the line leaders holding signs.

When the music starts (“When the Saints Go Marching In”), the lines will move up the street to the edge of the roundabout. Just follow the leader of your line.

The music will change to Mardi Gras parade music (“Iko Iko”) so follow your leader as the lines snake around the fountain. Raise your can when your leader does (on the eighth beat of each phrase). No rhythm? No worries! Just have fun!!

When the music changes to the “Can-Can,” wave your can rhythmically above your head and join in the can-can dance, moving in whatever way you like (Hopping? Marching? Dancing?). If you wish, move toward a collection box near the fountain (look for the signs) and deposit your can. (Donated cans will be taken to a food bank.)

When the music stops, please exit the roundabout as quickly and safely as possible so traffic can resume. Then take some time to visit with old and new friends. Check out Old Town, where there are many restaurants and taphouses. Thanks so much for participating! Enjoy the rest of your evening!
