About SideTracked Caches
This cache belongs to the SideTracked series. It is not designed to take you to a magical place with a breath taking view. It's a distraction for the weary traveller, but anyone else can go and find it too. More Information can be found at the SideTracked Website
The Station
The current station was built in conjunction with the Welshpool by-pass; the original main station building is now occupied by a shop. On leaving the station by the car park, walk straight ahead for a few hundred yards to reach the town centre. The original station opened in 1860, with the new platform opening in 1992.
About 100 metres north of the station were exchange sidings with the narrow gauge Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway which opened for freight traffic in 1903 and closed in 1956 with a separate station serving passenger traffic until 1931. The only remains are part of the cattle dock which has mixed gauge track embedded into concrete track bed. All other remains of this station and the site of the railway were obliterated by the construction of the new A483 road.
The Cache
The cache is hidden a small walk from the station on a public footpath (pavement). There is no space for trackables or swaps and please bring a pen or pencil. Please replace the cache exactly as found and beware of muggles!
NB: There is no need to rummage in the rubbish. However, if you want to put some in the bin while you are here, please do so and help keep Welshpool tidy.
