Planting a mini-forest at Horsbere Brook

CITO 2021, Season 2
Attend a CITO from 1st September through to 30 November to grab a season 2 souvenir.

Parking: Suggested parking is in the car park at the provided coords, there is a footbridge to take you over to Horsbere. Or if there is space you can park by the gates leading in to the brook (alternative parking).

Where: Meet us by the new woodland under the pylon (published co-ordinates).

What: This year we sadly lost one of our long term volunteers, Cliff. An inspirational and wonderful man who will be forever in our memories. We will be fulfilling his vision to plant a mini-forest in the wood now named after him, the new woodland under the pylon. The trees will be planted at a high density, to increase carbon sequestriation and encourage rapid growth of the trees as they compete for light. This will create a dense habitat, shade out the ground flora and so reduce the need for intensive maintenance of the trees. Join us planting over 100 trees in this area.

How: The Countryside Ranger will be there providing guidance and any necessary tools.

Health and Safety: The session and will be covered by council insurance as long as you are working under the Countryside Ranger's instruction. We are encouraging individuals to work in their own groups and socially distance where possible from any other groups. We ask you to bring your own gloves and where appropriate tools, so if you have a spade, shears and a lump hammer please do bring them along. Don't worry if you don't have them as the ranger will have a supply, we just ask that you don't share tools outside of your groups.
