► La fontaine de la Place Ducale de Charleville Mezières
La place Ducale est la place principale de la ville de Charleville-Mézières.
En son centre, une fontaine a été mise en place, réplique de la fontaine originale édifiée au XVIIème siècle.
Sa construction a fait appel des matériaux sédimentaires et métamorphiques de la grande région nord-est de part et d'autre de la frontière.
► La Pierre de Jaumont, Calcaire Bajocien
La Pierre de Jaumont est une formation sédimentaire mixte (biogénique et oolithique) déposée en mer peu profonde au début du Bajocien supérieur. Elle contient de nombreux fossiles.
Surnommée « Pierre du Soleil » à couleur jaune-ocre, elle est mise en valeur dans de nombreux bâtiments de la région des Ardennes et de Lorraine.
C'est une pierre calcaire oolithique et coquillier (faciès biogénique).
L'oxyde de fer donne à la pierre de Jaumont sa couleur jaune d'or.
► Le Marbre Rouge Belge
Extrait à Hautmont en Belgique, le Marbre Rouge est une marbre véritable, c'est à dire une formation métamorphique issue de la transformation d'un protolithe calcaire (cristallisation du carbonate de calcium en calcite).
La calcite, minéral nativement blanc brillant, peut se colorer en présence d'inclusions minérales.
C'est le cas dans ce marbre rouge dont la couleur est due à une forte concentration des sels de fer que contenaient les récifs à l'origine des formations sédimentaire métamorphisées.
Ce marbre, outre sa couleur, se caractérise par des veinages blancs de calcite et surtout la présence de nombreuses traces fossiles calcifiées.
Selon sa coloration, on distingue deux marbres rouges belges :
- un variété griotte pour les rouges foncés
- une variété royale pour les rouges claires avec des nuances grises.
► The fountain at Place Ducale in Charleville Mezières
Place Ducale is the main square in the city of Charleville-Mézières.
In its center, a fountain has been installed, a replica of the original fountain built in the 17th century.
Its construction used sedimentary and metamorphic materials from the great northeastern region on either side of the border.
► The Jaumont Stone, Bajocian Limestone
The Jaumont Stone is a mixed sedimentary formation (biogenic and oolitic) deposited in a shallow sea at the beginning of the Upper Bajocian. It contains many fossils.
Nicknamed “Stone of the Sun” in yellow-ocher color, it is highlighted in many buildings in the Ardennes and Lorraine region.
It is an oolitic and shell limestone (biogenic facies).
The iron oxide gives the Jaumont stone its golden yellow color.
► The Belgian Red Marble
Extracted in Hautmont in Belgium, Red Marble is a real marble, ie a metamorphic formation resulting from the transformation of a limestone protolith (crystallization of calcium carbonate into calcite).
Calcite, a naturally bright white mineral, can be colored in the presence of mineral inclusions.
This is the case in this red marble whose color is due to a high concentration of iron salts contained in the reefs at the origin of the metamorphosed sedimentary formations.
This marble, in addition to its color, is characterized by white veins of calcite and especially the presence of numerous calcified fossil traces.
According to its coloring, there are two Belgian red marbles:
- a cherry variety for dark reds
- a royal variety for light reds with gray undertones.
