Rondje Buchten
Buchten (in het Limburgs: Buchte) is een kerkdorp in de Nederlandse provincie Limburg dat valt onder de gemeente Sittard-Geleen-Born. Op 1 januari 2020 woonden er ongeveer 2.000 mensen (bron: gemeente Sittard-Geleen). Buchten ligt aan het Julianakanaal, waaraan het een binnenhaven heeft.
In 1924 krijgt het dorp een halte aan de tramlijn Roermond - Sittard. Deze halte Buchten Emplacement lag ten westen van Achter de Hoven. Bij de halte was een wisselplaats en had een locomotievenloods, kolenpark en een perron voor veelading. Dagelijks stopten hier vijf trams per richting. In 1931 werd het traject naar Sittard geopend. Een rit naar station Sittard duurde achttien minuten. In 1933 werd de dienst gestaakt en het spoor naar Roermond en Grevenbicht opgebroken. Het emplacement werd uitgebreid voor kolenvervoer uit de Oostelijke Mijnstreek en het stuk tramlijn naar Sittard werd aangepast om in 1935 als goederenspoorlijn Sittard - Born in gebruik te worden genomen.
Lange tijd was Buchten een lintdorp, maar de aanleg van het Julianakanaal (1925-1934) met havens en de spoorlijn Sittard - Born hebben de industrie in Buchten gebracht: Eerst overslag van steenkool uit de Limburgse steenkoolmijnen (in de Overlaadhaven), na de jaren '60 van de 20e eeuw onder meer automobielindustrie (DAF, later VDL NedCar, vanaf 1967).
We maken regelmatig een wandelend rondje door ons dorp. En tijdens ons rondje wandelen kreeg het idee voor een cache steeds meer vorm. Wij hopen dat jullie net zo genieten van dit rondje zoals dat wij dit altijd doen.

Buchten (in dialect: Buchte) is a church village in the Dutch province Limburg and belongs to the township Sittard-Geleen-Born. On januari 1st 2020 there were about 2000 people linving (source: township Sittard-Geleen). Buchten is located next to the Julianakanaal, and is having an inner harbour.
In 1924 the village gets a stop on the tram line Roermond – Sittard. This stop Buchten Emplacement was at the east side from Achter de Hoven. At the stop there was an exchange place and locomotive shed, coal park and a platform for loading. There stopped 5 trams per directions daily. In 1931 the traject to Sittard opened. A ride to Sittard took eighteen minutes. In 1933 the service was discontinued and the track to Roermond and Grevenbicht was broken up. The yard was expanded for coal transport from the Oostelijke Mijnstreek and the section of the tram line to Sittard was adapted to be put into use in 1935 as the freight railway Sittard - Born.
For a long time Buchten was a ribbon village, but the construction of the Juliana Canal (1925-1934) with ports and the Sittard - Born railway brought industry to Buchten: First transhipment of coal from the Limburg coal mines (in the Overlaadhaven), after the years 1960s, including the automotive industry (DAF, later VDL NedCar, from 1967).
