Inishkea North #1 - Porteen Mór
History: The Inishkea Islands are located 3km off the coast of Belmullet. There are two main islands, Inishkea North and Inishkea South. The Inishkea Islands or Inis Cé in irish, are named after a saint that lived on the island called St. Kea. The islands are home to many historical sites including a 5th century early christian monestry, a dye station, old school, whaling station, nunnery, cilin, decorated stone slabs, neolthic monuments and a 7th century church, to name a few. In the 1900s, more than 300 people lived on the island. There are currently three people who live on the island, although it increases to around fifteen during the summer months of May to September. The Cache: The cache is located above an area called Porteen Mór on the island of Inishkea. A boat trip is required to get to this cache. The cache is a small sized container with a small of space for trackables & other small sized items. Tips: No need to climb to get the cache or move any stones. Do not enter any houses on the island as the cache is not there and they are all privately owned. - use hint if stuck. Enjoy!

Do not leave any rubbish on island or take anything, camping of any sort is not permitted and finally enjoy this beautiful island!
