CITO 2021, Season 2 (Wednesday, September 1 through Tuesday, November 30, 2021)

Caerphilly Castle CITO, Crescent Road, Caerphilly
Saturday 25th September, 11.15am-12.30pm

Location:

Caerphilly Castle is a medieval fortification in Caerphilly in South Wales. The castle was constructed by Gilbert de Clare in the 13th century as part of his campaign to maintain control of Glamorgan. The rise of the powerful Prince of Wales persuaded Marcher lord Gilbert de Clare that he needed a fortress in double-quick time. And it had better be truly formidable.
So from 1268 de Clare constructed the biggest castle in Wales — second only to Windsor in the whole of Britain. Massive walls, towers and gatehouses were combined with sprawling water defences to cover a total of 30 acres.
That’s three times the size of Wales’s modern-day stronghold and home of Welsh rugby, the Principality Stadium!

CITO event:

Hope to see you there!

Please Note

There is an event scheduled for 10am-11am nearby (see below), however there is no requirement to attend both events.

If you are planning to attend the pre-CITO event (GC9FGRX Saturday Sit-Down @ The Old Library, Caerphilly) please can you log a WA so we have an idea of how many tables need to be reserved. Many thanks

The GAGB

The Geocaching Association of Great Britain (GAGB). The Association was established in 2003 to provide a national geocaching organisation and serve as a UK point of contact for geocachers, landowners, the media and others with an interest in geocaching.

As part of its 10th anniversary, it was decided to hold a CITO weekend in September which has now become an annual event. This later evolved into a full CITO Week, with the first one being held in September 2019. It would be great to see more of these icons pop up across the country and for other members to hold their own events where it is not feasible to attend one that a committee member has organised.

There is a lot more information about what we do, including the landowner database, comprehensive event listings and Seeker e-magazine at www.gagb.org.ukIf you would like to get involved follow the link and find our contact details.

The GAGB are encouraging everyone to organise CITO events this weekend, in part to pay-back for what we hope will have been a great summer of caching, and also to make things more pleasant for future cachers. If this CITO is the nearest one to you, please come along!

More information could well be announced, so either keep watch on the listing or log your 'Will Attend' to make sure you receive the announcement logs.
