Geocache Description:

05 August 2021, 15:00 - 16:00

It's another 3pm Geocaching Meet'N'Greet at Flippin' Pizza!

Geocaching events in the district are are not very common. I have been geocaching over ten years and I have only attended 8 eor so events in the Nations Capitol. As of today the most events ever attended be a cacher in DC is 12. Much of this lack of geo meets is due to DC laws about not having large groups of people forming on the street. With my new monthly event I hope to shake things up a bit.

Here is the deal on this GC/DC Event... Once a month I will get off work, walk over to this Flippin' Pizza, order me a beer, maybe a eat a slice, and see if anyone shows up to my geocaching event. If folks show up I will more than likely be here longer than the 1 hour listed. If at 4 pm I am sitting there all alone with an empty log book, an empty beer cup, and an empty plate than I am heading over to catch the next Dale City - Washington Express Bus home. I expect the bulk of attendees will be attended by mostly "non-teleworking Federal" Geocachers, a few DMV locals, and perhaps lure a few tourists over from the National Mall. With that said everyone is welcome to attend. Jermaine Bryant, the manager has given me written approval to making this a monthly thing. Who knows? Once I get some momentum hosting these evens I might shop around for other venues around DC to rotate with.

Parking, you say? Ha hah. Sure. If you can find a street spot go for it! Odds are best with the surrounding roads around GSA's Central Heating Plant (12th and D Streets SW and 13th & C Streets SW), just a block north of the event. Meters cost about 6 quarters an hour here, but there is some complicated pay app thing you can do. Feds like me are getting off work around this time and and spots start opening up pretty quickly on the streets. Just watch those street signs because around 4:30 pm certain sides of some road are forbidden to be parked on (That will get you a pretty pink $100 ticket too courtesy of District Parking Enforcement!). Also don't park at those red meters either because they are for people with handicap placards (unless you have one than go ahead).

There are a few garages too, but they could get expensive. Portals III on D Street is $20 for 3 hours, Portals 1 is next door to the event but I didn't see prices listed.

Smithsonian and LeEnfant Metro stations are a few blocks away each. Bikeshare station is next to the USDA south building, and if you feel really chipper you can rent one of the many scooters that are in piles on the sidewalks all over the city.
