VIEW ON THE RIBEIRINHA LIGHTHOUSE

The Ponta da Ribeirinha Lighthouse was destroyed by the earthquake which occurred on July 9, 1998.
This earthquake caused a lot of damage on Faial island. Especially in and around the civil parrish of Ribeirinha.
The decision to build the lighthouse was taken in 1884. However, the building of the lighthouse lasted until its inauguration in 1919.
The lighthouse consisted of a 20 meter high tower and 4 adjoining houses.
On top of the tower stood a copper dome which was painted red. Inside was the focussed light with a visible range of 29 nautical miles
The cache is located along the official Faial trail “Costa a Costa” that connects the Ponta da Ribeirinha and the Ribeirinha lighthouse with the Volcano of Capelinhos and the Capelinhos lighthouse which was built after the same decision of the Municipality of 1884 but was inaugurated in 1903.

O Farol da Ponta da Ribeirinha encontram-se em ruinas depois o sismo do dia 9 de Julio 1998.
Este sismo causou muitos danos na ilha do Faial. Especialmente na freguesia de Ribeirinha e arredores.
A decisão de construir o farol foi tomada em 1884. No entanto, a construção durou até a inauguração em 1919.
O farol consistia em uma torre de 20 metros de altura e 4 casas contíguas. No topo da torre havia uma cúpula de cobre pintada de vermelho. Dentro estava a luz focada com um alcance visível de 29 milhas náuticas.
A cache está localizado junto ao trilho oficial do Faial “Costa a Costa” que liga a Ponta da Ribeirinha e o farol da Ribeirinha com o Vulcão dos Capelinhos e o Farol dos Capelinhos que foi construído após a mesma decisão da Câmara Municípal de 1884 mas foi inaugurado em 1903.
