We have a unique opportunity to cleanup one of our geocaching playground locations! Today's focus will be on Gourdneck Prairie Cemetery in Schoolcraft Township, where it's come to my attention there's a large amount of household garbage that was dumped just north of the cemetery in the wooded area. I have contacted Schoolcraft Township, and they have graciously accepted our offer and efforts to clean up this cemetery. They did ask that we be careful and respectful of the area, do not drive in the headstone area, and ensure that we don't cause any damage to any headstones either.
Due to limited parking at the cemetery itself, I'm proposing that we meet at this CITO event's posted coordinates (Swan Park - N 42 07.215 W 085 35.270) and by 1:15 or 1:30 PM, we'll carpool/drive over to the cemetery in (hopefully) the 3 largest vehicles driven that day.
The cemetery is marked as a waypoint on this cache page as well (N 42 07.630 W 085 34.125). The driveway for the cemetery is very short though, so the more cars we can leave at Swan Park the better.
Unless more trash has been added, I think an hour should be sufficient to get the area cleaned up and cleaned out! I will most definitely welcome anyone who can take a bag or two home with them to put in their weekly dumpster service (garbage and/or recycling). TOTTs to bring to this event include: extra bags, gloves, grabber tools if you'd like. We will be cleaning up a woodsy area north of the cemetery, so please plan on protection against ticks, poisonous plants, and other critters!
