St Silas Church
You could easily walk past this at fist glance small church. By placing a cache here I hope you can learn a bit about the history of St Silas, an unusually named church.
Built on land that was previously a brewery, this church opened in 1863, originally as Christ Church and then renamed as St. Silas 4 years later.
There's only one other church in the diocese of London with the same dedication - Saint Silas the Martyr in Kentish Town, a not too distant neighbour.
St Silas a.k.a. Silvanus was a leading member of the early Christian community.
Another unusual feature of this church is the WW1 memorial in the grounds built before the war ended, in 1917.
Congrats to the FTF joint cachers BubblesDeVere & Debs54
