Holy Trinity Church
The church was designed by the architect Anthony Salvin and built between 1836 and 1838. It was assigned a parish in 1843 and at the same time a burial ground was consecrated by the Bishop of Durham.[4]
The chancel was added in 1867 by Ross.
Restoration work was carried out in 1883 when the church was repaired, redecorated and reseated under the direction of the architect George Gordon Hoskins.[5]
A large, fine, interesting building, with good carving and excellent stained glass from the "Aesthetic Movement". The church is set in a beautiful churchyard. Trinity has formed deep and strong partnerships with all the major local amenities, such as the nearby Sixth Form College.
Trinity has become a landmark for many in the local community and throughout the town in proclaiming the Gospel, and revealing the Kingdom through outreach, strong preaching and good liturgy.
