Geocache Description:

“Blighty – Rutland” is located in England’s smallest county – Rutland. The cache can be found near the village of Hambleton and is placed near Rutland Water, with walking access for all from a footpath.

My two young (at the time!) sons and I placed the original cache (a red flask container seen in early pictures) in October 2002 when Geocaching was in its infancy. It was updated in 2008 and moved slightly, with a new hiding ”system". In January 2017 I replaced the box and added all new treasures.

In the early years of Geocaching, we found some very ingenious hides and discovered how geocaching took us to many amazing locations, especially when on holidays around the world. I hope Blighty Rutland achieves these attributes!

Blighty is an old nickname for England and this cache is the sister of “Blighty – Majorca” www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=33759, which was placed around the same time and also remains popular.

The detailed and frequent logs are nice to receive and I hope you, and maybe your family, can enjoy this fun cache and it can keep it alive for many years to come.

Background to the Blighty caches : Through my sailing and general geekiness I purchased an early handheld GPS. In those days I remember it taking hours to manually add each cache coordinates as a GPS waypoint. The hint “Decrypt” option on the web site has not changed for 15+ years as was needed because very often we printed each cache page because back then once out hunting there were no mobile Apps. After hunting unsuccessfully, one would use the printout and cipher table to decrypt the hint in the field!

There is no log book provided in this Cache.
