Geocache Description:

31 July 2021, 15:30 - 20:00

Saturday, July 31, 2021

3:30 PM to 8:00 PM

Picnic, games, prizes, and most importantly... geo-friends!

Returning for the third year to Shawnee State Park, Pavilion 7 - The Geo-Family Feud returns! Along with the 'Feud', two other summer-time favorites return: The Wheel of Geocaching (from Summer 2019 and Fall 2020), and a combo game of Coordinates Are Right / Make a Geo-Deal (Summer 2020). There could be plenty of prizes to give away, and possibly some "zonks"!

Probable schedule:

Before 3:30 pm: The pavilion is rented all day (and has been since mid-March); setup will be ongoing at GZ as soon as the hosts are able to arrive, sometime between Noon and 3pm; enjoy the offerings of the state park if you arrive before the official start time. You might even want to track down some area geocaches if desired.

3:30 PM: Event kick off; meet and greet

4:00 PM: Food, friends, and geo-conversation

4:45 PM: The Geo Family Feud - "Survey says!" Two teams compete to see who can think most like a geocacher based on surveys conducted of 100 geocacher responses to various questions.

Who will be the champion team this time around? We anticipate a new survey to be conducted before the event, but there are also some remaining unused survey questions still available. If all goes to plan, maybe we'll add an additional survey into the main round as we did last year.

5:30 PM: Intermission I (Game reset)

5:45 PM: Spin that Wheel of Geocaching!

That's right... Another fan-favorite game-show-style adaptation is coming once again to the Game Night, Summer Picnic Edition. We would like to have four participants playing head-to head against a four-puzzle TV show format of the game. The winner of which will get a final puzzle to play for an additional prize selected from the prize wheel. If more than four participants want to try their hand at the puzzle games, then additional play-in rounds will be established before the main round. Please be sure to fill in the sign-up slips that will be provided at the pavilion on the day of the picnic.

6:30 PM (or end of Wheel): Intermission II (Game reset)

6:45 PM (or when ready): "Come on down!" for The Coordinates Are Right! and Let's Make a Geo-Deal!

We'll have games for "bidding" on the correct coordinates, probably three or four coordinate guessing games, a singular "spin the wheel" (or some similar approximation), plus the Geocaching Travel Showdown to crown the grand winner! At the conclusion, additional prizes (and maybe some "zonks") could be given away with a few "Let's Make a Geo-Deal" style games.

7:30 PM: When the games conclude, any final prize giveaways and drawings, potentially with trivia could happen depending on the number still in attendance...

8:00 PM: Event conclusion and final event geo-conversation... Thanks to everyone for joining us!

8:30 PM (or so) until 10:00 PM: Let the event organizers know of any potential "around the campfire" type events or similar that you would like mentioned in this space.

There is lots of lawn space to spread out at the pavilion site. Please bring your own lawn or camp chairs if you wish to make use of this large, relaxing space around the event coordinates.

Each in-person guest may practice their preferred distancing habits. With an outdoor, summertime space and event, there should be more than enough room to accommodate everyone. As we saw last year, the Pavilion 7 location provided ample room and a vast lawn area for spreading out. (Feel free to bring your own chairs as already noted.) Additionally, our friends that handled food distribution last year did a fantastic job to keep everyone safe, and we welcome their assistance and input this year as they are willing and able to supply it. You may bring your own food and drinks if that is more comfortable, or feel free to take the common picnic food that is made available.

The state park is requiring masks inside any enclosed buildings. (This likely includes the restrooms.) Other mask use is encouraged by the state if not keeping certain distances; attendees should practice those habits which most protect themselves and are personally most comfortable. Recommendations may also change in time as the event approaches, and we'll keep you updated with announcements to this event page as may be necessary.

Hot dogs and hamburgers will be provided. Soft drinks, bottled water, and individually-wrapped snack foods should also be present. Attendees may bring their own personal food items (if that is more comfortable) or share with the common food. If you do wish to bring food to share (not necessary), there will be a table to place those items so other attendees know which is the shared food.

A donation "ammo can" will also be present for those that wish (certainly not a requirement) to chip in to help defray the cost of pavilion rental.

Helpful Items

Please indicate in your log the number that attend with your geo-user name, and if you are interested in partaking in hot dogs and/or hamburgers (which will help us plan).

If you can't stay for the entire event, feel free to drop in as you are able, considering the schedule posted above. If updates to the schedule are made as the event draws near, announcements will be made on this geocaching event listing to serve as alerts to these changes.

Driving to the event: Please see the waypoints on this event cache listing (if needed) for helpful navigation points to enter the roads of the state park where the event will be held. Please note the posted speed limits on roads within the park, none of which are likely above 25 mph. The hint will provide the specific location within the park by name. See this page for maps of the park.

For more information about the park, such as camping, hiking, or fishing opportunities, please see the main park page.
