Il nome deriva dal latino Vicus, cioè “villaggio”.
Il terribile terremoto del 2016 ha pesantemente colpito e distrutto quello che era un borgo incantevole chiamato “la perla dei Monti Sibillini” per rimarcare in questo luogo l’inizio del mondo aspro e selvaggio di queste montagne, dove secondo la tradizione si nasconde l’antro della Sibilla appenninica, l’antica e magica profetessa.
Attualmente il centro storico di Visso non è accessibile per le conseguenze del terremoto, ed è un vero peccato perché tante meraviglie erano racchiuse in poco spazio e raccontavano un passato ricco di storia: imponenti mura, balconcini medievali, torri, palazzi gentilizi rinascimentali, portali in pietra arricchiti da motti latini e stemmi di famiglia.
Nonostante Visso sia ancora oggi un borgo ferito, la bellezza qui non manca, e la si vede negli occhi dei suoi abitanti che con coraggio ammirevole vogliono ricostruire la propria casa.

The awful earthquake of 2016 has heavily hit and destroyed what once was a charming village, known as “the pearl of the Sibillini Mounts”, to remark that this place is the starting point of the harshness and wilderness of these mountains where, according to tradition, the Apennine Sibyl cave is located, the old and magic prophetess.
The historical centre of Visso is currently not accessible becasue of the effects of the earthquake and this is a real shame as many wonders were enclosed in a small area and they described a past rich of history: imposing walls, medieval balconies, towers, Renaissance noble palaces, stone portals enriched by Latin mottoes and families’ coat of arms.
Despite Visso is still a wounded village, the beauty is not lacking here, and you can see it in the eyes of its inhabitants which with an admirable courage want to rebuild their home.
