Geocache Description:

The bridge is one of three memorials within Rickerby Park, the Cenotaph and Memorial Gardens being the others. Originally there was a plaque over the bridge (see image) but this does not seem to have been returned after the bridge was refurbished in 2017. The plaque reaad -

THIS BRIDGE WAS ERECTED AND RICKERBY PARK ACQUIRED FOR THE PUBLIC THROUGH THE EFFORTS OF THE CARLISLE CITIZENS LEAGUE IN MEMORY/OF THOSE WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR OF 1914-18. OPENED 25TH MAY 1923 BY THE RIGHT HON THE EARL OF LONSDALE, LORD LIEUTENANT OF CUMBERLAND

The bridge provides a pedestrian and cycle link to the east of the city.  It has an impressive single span of 200 feet and was constructed in 1922 by local craftsmen from around 100 tons of steel from Skinningrove.   It crosses where the rivers Petteril and Eden converge.   It was dedicated at the same time as the nearby Cenotaph.

In order to find the cache you need to visit the bridge and answer the following questions.

If anybody would like to expand the War Memorial Series, please do. I would ask that you let Just-us-Two know first by filling in the contact form on the War Memorial Series website warmemorialseries.co.uk https://warmemorialseries.co.uk/ so they can keep track of the War Memorial numbers and names to avoid duplication.
