About Lebanon Train Station
The Albany-Lebanon Railroad was completed in 1880 that was a branch of the Oregon and California Railroad, which became the Southern Pacific. The current Lebanon station is of a standard Southern Pacific depot design, a one-story combination depot #23. It was opened in 1908, replacing a smaller depot. The last passenger train was in the 1950s. The station was eventually purchased by the city. It serves as the home base for the Santiam Excursion trains operated by the Albany & Eastern Railroad. The A&E is a freight shortline railroad operating on this old SP branch line.
Lebanon Orgon was named by settler Jeremiah Ralston in 1847. He chose the name because the cedar trees along the river made him think about the biblical references to the cedars of Lebanon. It may also because he was born in Lebanon, Tennessee. The Oregon town pronounced the name leba-nin, not leba-non.
