Assim reza a popular lenda do Caratão, aliás muito conhecida em todo o concelho de Mação, nesta versão, ou naquela outra que diz: "Entre Bandos e Rebandos, e os dois Caratões ambos, e a ponte do Cadouro, há um mineral de ouro"
