She was born in a country, where women had no right to drive nor vote.
She studied in the western world being a "colored immigrant" - a field traditionally dominated by men.
From an outsider, she became a top tier architect. As the first woman in history, she was awarded the most prestigious architecture award (Pritzker prize) and many more.
She was presented with the title "Dame" by Queen Elisabeth II. She gave lectures at Harvard, Cambridge and other world-class universities.
Her buildings lack right angles. Often described as "space shuttles", "alien bases", or "too organic and feminine". She was nicknamed the "Queen of the Curve".
Her concepts were often difficult to construct and overpriced.
She was also criticized for working for authoritarian regimes.
She died unexpectedly in 2016 aged 65. Despite being active for mere 20 years, she managed to leave behind numerous iconic buildings all over the world and become the greatest female architect in contemporary architecture.
