Square de l'Île de France
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the 14th century, the land was nicknamed La Motte-aux-Papelards, because of the numerous rubble and detritus accumulated after the construction of Notre-Dame Cathedral.
In 1687, a first garden, to which access was reserved for men, was part of the Canons' enclosure of the cathedral. During the Second Empire, in 1868, Prefect Haussmann had the capital's mortuary built there. The building looks like a small Greek temple. This green space overlooks the Memorial of the Martyrs of the Deportation, built between 1954 and 1964, which is entered via a square. A weeping willow tree is dedicated to the victims of Nazism.
