St Luke’s - In 1855 the first stone was laid on a twelve acre site donated by the Earl of Verulam and the church consecrated in on Friday 17 October 1856 at 12 noon by the Bishop of Rochester. It was built at a cost of £1,850 and designed to sit 500. It was a small brick building with an apse (with 5 slim line painted windows) and a small bell tower.

It was built for the small village of less than 1000. Then Tiptree became a celebrated fruit and seed district. In 1901 Tiptree saw the first loganberries in England, brought from California by Mr CF J Wilkin. Strawberries and Jam followed, and the labourers. Today Tiptree boasts the largest village in Essex, and a large extension was built to the church in 1975.
