September 1944, ten noorden van de Rijn is de 'slag om Arnhem' in volle gang. De Duitse Leutnant Horst Adelmund heeft zijn handen vol aan de geallieerde paratroopers, maar hij weet dat de schatten die hij verzameld heeft in de bezettingstijd veilig verstopt liggen in de buurt van zijn logies-adres in Driel, ten zuiden van de Rijn. Zijn schatten liggen buiten schot.
Op donderdag landen er echter nieuwe troepen, de Poolse 1e onafhankelijke parachutisten brigade onder leiding van generaal-majoor Stanisław Sosabowski landt bij Driel, gevaarlijk dicht bij Horst's schat. Vanaf het hoofdkwartier van het Sonderkommando Oosterbeek verstuurt hij een bericht naar zijn maat Gerhard Wolff, kommandant van een machinegeweerbatterij bij Driel, op de plaats waar tegenwoordig een monument voor de oorlogsslachtoffers staat. Hij vraagt zijn vriend om zijn schat veilig te stellen. Zo ver komt het echter niet, want de Polen vechten als duivels en verdrijven de Duitsers.
Dit verhaal doet al meer dan 65 jaar de ronde, en tot op heden heeft niemend de schat van Horst Adelmund gevonden. De enige aanwijzingen omtrend de plaats van de schat die bekend zijn, zijn een paar vodjes papier met onbegrijpelijke woorden (zie afbeeldingen verderop). Volgens de overlevering moet hiermee de schat gevonden kunnen worden....
September 1944, north of the river Rhine the ' Battle of Arnhem' is raging. German lieutenant Horst Adelmund has a hard time batteling the allied paratroopers, but he rests assured that the treasures he collected during the occupation of Holland are safely stashed near his boarding house in Driel, south of the river. His stash is safe.
On thursday that week, new troops are parachuted into the war zone. They are the 1st Polish independant parachute brigade commanded by major-general Stanisław Sosabowski. They landed near Driel, alarmingly close to Horts's treasures! From the headquarters of Sonderkommando Oosterbeek, Horst sends a message to his buddy Gerhard Wolff, commander of one of the machine gun batteries near Driel, on the exact spot where today a war memorial monument is situated. He asks his friend to salvage his treasure. Gerhard never gets aroud to do the job because the Polish fight like devils and chase the Germans away.
This story has been going round for more than 65 years, but until now, no-one has ever found the treasure of Horst Adelmund. The only known clues about the wherabouts of the stash are two scraps of paper with cryptical words (see images below). Rumour has it these will lead you to the treasure...
