This cache is in a cemetery so NO NIGHT CACHING
Remember, this is the outdoors ....If you are intending to hunt for the caches, please come prepared with boots/old shoes (not sandals or flip-flops), long pants, and insect repellent. At any given time in South Eastern Michigan there is poison ivy, ticks and mosquitoes a plenty! While searching for this cache, YOU MAY ENCOUNTER WATER, MUD,THORNS, POISON IVY, SNAKES, MOSQUITOES AND ANYTHING ELSE THAT IS OUTSIDE! Due to the changing seasons in Michigan, the D/T may vary at different times of the year. You must physically sign the log to claim the find so, BRING YOUR OWN PEN. Failure to do so may result in the deletion of your log. We do check occasionally. Please DO NOT post spoilers in your log. Let everyone else have the fun that you did. Early settlers to Huron Township Came from eastern states, including
Massachusetts, New York and Pennsylvania. Immagration peaked in the 1830's
spurred by the sale of goverment land.
Among early settlers to Huron Township were Wialliam Sr and Elizabeth.
They moved their family from Seneca County, New York,
about the year 1832 and established a farm east of the Huron River.
Moses R. , twelfth or thirteenth child of William Sr and Elizabeth,
born 15 Feburary 1828, arrived with his parents at the age of four and eventually
rose to prominence in state and local politics. A lawyer by profession, he served
terms as Huron Township Treasurer, Clerk, and Supervisor; and was appointed
the settlement's first Postmaster. In addition Moses R. served as a
Michigan State legislator from Wayne County during the 1863-1866 session.
The first interment at the cemetery took place 1848.
Louisa Harris first wife of Moses, died 19 Janurary 1896. Moses R.
died 5 September 1905. Both were buried here with family.
Gravesites include parents and children and their families who settled close by.
This site is Historically significant as the final resting place of pioneering families of Huron Township.
